SASCO stands opposed to the eviction of students from residences

The South African Students Congress (SASCO) has learnt with shock and disappointment the unfortunate eviction order by Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT, FS) management directed at residence students of CUT by its senseless and arrogant management.

As an organisation, we view this act by CUT management not only as defiance to the directives by the state President and Minister of Higher education and training but also further endangering the lives of poor students as the third wave of the pandemic is upon us. Worth noting is the unfortunate eviction of students two hours towards curfew time. The malicious management of CUT, FS perpetrates further defiance of Covid- 19 regulations set out by cabinet as directed by the level 4 alert regulations.

SASCO calls on CUT, FS students and other students who are facing eviction from their residences to resist eviction and show a middle finger to the order by defying thorough forming of a human shields to protect residence students.

We commit to standing with the students and our provincial leadership will work with relevant law agencies to initiate an urgent interdict to this senseless act and defiance to the Disaster Management Act as announced by cabinet.
